the Mushuganas - "Lows in the Mid 90's"...almost here.

After years of legitimate setbacks, procrastinating and...well that's about it, Beercan Records is very proud to announce that the Mushuganas retrospective "Lows in the Mid 90's" is just about ready for release to the general public. We're expecting the CD's in our hands by the end of this month. Yes, this month. April. Yes, 2010. Why don't you believe us?

Anyway, the stars seem to have further aligned and it just so happens that the Mushuganas will be playing a show on Saturday, May 29th at Subterranean (2011 North Ave.) here in Chicago as part of the Windy City Sound Clash. Jeff, the WCSC mang in charge, has found it in his heart to co-bill this already momentous eventous as a CD release show for "Lows in the Mid 90's" as well.

More details to come very soon so check back here often. In the meantime, you can get lineup info on the Windy City Sound Clash at www.myspace.com/windycitysoundclash and you can get tickets at http://www.subt.net/.

If you can't wait another couple days for these details mentioned in the last paragraph, feel free to drop us a line at beercanrecords@gmail.com you impatient creep.

  2. This is still subject to a little bit of change, but here's the more-than-likely track listing for the Mushuganas retrospective. And yes, it's a retrospective, not a full-on discography. If we had our druthers, it would be a double CD or some shit, but hey...

You're going to get 32 tracks (some of which is stage banter, etc.) and we dug up some stuff you may have never heard before songwise and otherwise.

1 - Joe Talks Some Shit About His Own Band
2 - Theme From Mushugana (Unreleased)
    3 - Dropout Girl
    4 - Renaissance
    5 - Mistreated
    6 - Spoonfed
    7 - Downfall
    8 - Disappointed
    9 - Breaking With Tradition
10 - Joe Talks Some Shit About The Band Being Handsome AND Beautiful
    11 - When I'm Here With You
12 - You Hate Me, I Hate You (Live)
    13 - Iowa
14 - Joe Talks Some Shit About Being Rock and Roll
    15 - Aimed Wrong
    16 - Strawberry Shortcake
    17 - Summer Shoes
18 - WHPK Freakout (Unreleased...and we don't know what the actual name is but we like it a lot)
    19 - Some Wings (Live...practically unreleased)
20 - Last Night On Earth
21 - Joe Talks Some Shit About Uriah Heep
    22 - Heartbreak '98
    23 - The Vine
    24 - The Deacon

  3. Quick correction - This track listing is NOT subject to a little bit of change. It is locked in.

I'd copied and pasted the reply above from another post.

  4. Back in the day, people used to swear that Dropout Girl was the best 7" they ever heard, how the hell does it happen that the songs "Maybe" and "18" get left off this CD?

Will this thing be available on Itunes? or another place that sells digital music? Any chance this missing songs mentioned above will be available for digital download?

  5. We've gotten this question a couple of times. My thinking is that, of the Mushuganas catalog, Dropout Girl is still probably the easiest to track down, had the most pressed, was the most popular and is already owned by the most amount of people who knew of the Mushuganas.

"Maybe" and "18" are great tunes, but unless we did a double CD, some stuff had to get cut out. We wanted this CD to cover the whole 10 years or so that they were putting out music and to include as much rare stuff as we could track down. We also felt that the last few releases that they put out (Summer Shoes 7", Heartbreak '98 LP) unfairly got a bad rap because they had a bit of a different sound than their previous stuff. So, instead of "18" and "Maybe" you get "Some Wings" and "Renaissance" AND the chance to give tunes like that a second listen. It's a good trade-off in our opinion. All that being said, I'll admit that we did fuck up by not including "She's Got a Man".

So, maybe we didn't make the absolute optimal decisions about which tracks would sell the most, but I think we did put together a really cool picture of a great band that was around for a decade cranking out top-notch music and putting on wild shows. And that's what we wanted to do all along.

Still working on the digital download front...

  7. if y'all end up doing the iTunes extra tracks, it'd be great to see all of these represented there: Motivation, She's Got A Man, 18, Maybe, Emergency, Way Up North, and Angels (basically the remaining tracks from 7"s that weren't included on the cd).

got my cd in the mail yesterday and it's been on repeat ever since!
